Dr. Baldev Krishan Sachdeva, a distinguished mathematician, served as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of New Haven for over 30 years. Originally from India, he arrived in the United States in 1969 as a student. After earning his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Sachdeva embarked on a remarkable teaching career that spanned over 40 years, during which he lectured at various universities in Mathematics, Physics, and Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Sachdeva began his academic journey at the University of Delhi, India where he also had the opportunity to teach. His career in India included a notable tenure at prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, Kanpur. He joined the University of New Haven in September 1979, where he not only taught but also took on significant administrative roles, including Director of Academic Affairs and Chairman of the Mathematics Department.
Beyond his primary fields of Mathematics and Physics, Dr. Sachdeva was deeply interested in Literature, Philosophy, and World History. His research focused on Applied Mathematics, particularly in Integral Equations, Wave Propagation, Integral Transforms, and Wavelets. He authored a book titled "Elementary Hydrodynamics" and published 19 research papers on topics such as Diffraction Theory, Integral and Differential Equations, and Applied Mathematics. His work appeared in reputable journals including Physics of Fluids, Journal of Applied Physics, Radio Science, International Journal of Mathematical Sciences, and American Mathematical Monthly.
Dr. Baldev Krishan Sachdeva merged into the Supreme Consciousness on July 8, 2022 (1939 - 2022). He is survived by his devoted wife, two loving two brothers, two sisters and 8 nieces & nephews.
